New player, vintage cars (60's)

Notapor Stefanus » Dom Ago 25, 2013 4:13 am

I'm new here. And I'm very fond of vintage F1 cars, like the Lotus 64 and such. Do others also like the idea of a mod that is about the 50's or 60's? Does anyone know about such mods or downloads? I'm inspired by Grand Prix Legends, that's why I was thinking of 1967. The game looks really good, the top-down perspective is nice. I would LOVE to play with vintage cars and I want to be immersed in the beautiful racing world of the 60's.

Thanks! I already had a download with all of the cars in it, that's where I discovered that it had old models like the Lotus 49 etc. (sorry, i didn't mean the Lotus 64). That made me wonder if there would be a complete mod, including tracks, sounds, bots and the lot. So you don't know where that mod is to be found? At least I now know that there is (supposed to be) a mod. Thanks for the quick answer! :D

The Nordschleife you have is very like the one in the 50's/60's?
Do I have to edit for example the F1-2010 car set or can I add a car set?

I don't want to sound disappointed, but I was hoping for more complete versions (really old tracks with hay for tire walls, and the sounds of the old cars), just as others seasons like F1-2012. Anyway, thanks for helping me. :)

Hi there,

MRO is not like a simulator (rFactor) where you can recreate a complete season with cars, tracks and sounds. But you can arrange by yourself something similar. At the moment Kotai is working on new versions that I think will have custom championships to play offline. Maybe some guys already have some leagues that play old tracks, like MRO legends I think...

-There are plenty of tracks, but if you want 1960-70 period is quite difficult to find, I mean there is SPA but not 1967 version and so on :)

-I'm not familiar with car design but lot of people here constantly draw new cars, ask them maybe.

-As for the sound you can try to do by yourself and then put in the "sonidos" folder, but is not simple to make.
I've done the 1985 mod for MRO once (sound+cars+AI), it's around here in the forum, don't remember where... :)

- About the tracks: It doesn't have to be THAT accurate. :P I probably want something other people don't care about. As I'm not familiar with track editing/building I think I can only dream about the tracks and hope Kotai will one day make leagues from the 50's/60's. Do you know of a 60's-like track of Spa around here?

- I have a set of cars of 1964, most of them made by osoazul, that I've found in the car pack in the download section. I've made a list of 1964 F1-drivers with their names, chassis, engine and nationality. As you probably know, a lot of the drivers in those times changed cars or even teams. That is of course impossible to integrate into the game. I tried to make the list as accurate as possible, excluding a lot of drivers that drove only one time and putting the active drivers in the appropriate cars (teamname, chassis and engine). There are 4 1967 cars in the pack and a couple of other cars of the 50's and 60's. The 1964 cars are 26 models in total. 8 of them are F158's from different designers.

- I know it's not a simulator like rFactor. :) The list is made to make a bot pack, although the car specs and driver skills are dependent on what I think of the performance of the car and driver in the given year.

- I use the engine sounds of Grand Prix Legends which are from 1967 cars I think, but they are of course far more accurate than the sounds of modern engines. They work pretty well!

A lot of things are of course modern. I already spoke about the tracks. Other things are KERS and DRS. Hilarious though, seeing Graham Hill passing you in his BRM with his DRS magically activated.

MRO Legends is Spanish, and I can't speak or write it. Some of it is easy to understand but for the most part I can't really work with it. I found some topics about circuits, but even if I would be sure they are (more) accurate, I'm unable to download them.

The help is much appreciated. Don't know why I didn't expect the quick and helpful answers. :P

Create your bots, check the other ready bots done for the game to understand how they have been done. It's easy to create AI drivers.

The main problem comes with tracks. Usually people like to draw modern circuits and despite there are several good old tracks it's hard to find old circuits from 1950-1960. I've drawn something for this game but never tought about that period, since I like the Senna-Prost era and recent years. I must say that drawing some classic circuits of 1960-1970 is a bit hard: for example, Nordschleife, how about that? It's too big for MRO! Or Spa classic, it's also huge. But you can try the challenge and make some circuits :)

For any other help ask Albaitalia, Vany, Kotai, they will solve all your other questions on the game for sure ;)

The trees are quite repetitive, but there are many turns and curves in the Green Hell. I edited a part of it because the trees were blocking the road and the AI didn't understand how to get through. After my little tweaking the AI couldn't participate because there was no AI file to be found, according to my computer. I'm new to this so I don't expect to have Zandvoort ready in a couple of days. Holidays are almost over and I have a lot of other things I could worry about, besides the scenery on the track. But anyway, the track could be fairly accurate, as it is only 4,2 kilometres, just like some modern tracks in the game.

My botpack is more or less ready. It contains the botfiles of 23 drivers, Jim Clark not being one of them because I play as Jim Clark myself. I've included the player file for Jim Clark. There are 26 models in the 'Coches' folder, 2 pit crews in de 'Mecanicos' folder: 1 Jaguar and 1 Minardi team. The Jaguar team for Clark in the green Lotus, the Minardi team for all the other drivers. I chose the Minardi because they have quite neutral (black) clothes. And I included the engine sounds, all in the Sonidos/Motor folder beginning with '60's-'. I searched wikipedia for the names, positions, teams, nationalities of the drivers and for the chassis and engines they were using mostly. Carel Godin de Beaufort, André Pilette, Ronnie Bucknum and Mário de Auraújo Cabral are included only so that I could use the Porsche, Scirocco, Honda and Derrington-Francis models respectively. And because De Beaufort is Dutch, lol. The perfomance of the drivers and cars is loosely based on the historic results of 1964, but otherwise the specs are still quite random. I also want to change the skin. :P I have the theme music from the movie 'Grand Prix' (1966) as menu music now. Let's hope I'll get there at the end, there's still a lot that could be changed to increase the immersion... I gave the Derrington the engine sound of the Eagle, not because it is accurate (it isn't) but only to use that sound file. The Eagle engine has a really nice gritty sound though!

I've made a rev meter that replaces the speedometer and the whole stuff. There is also a picture of the fuel meter, but I don't know how to effectively make a pointer for that one... I just edited the old rev pointer, so in fact it isn't something totally new. I took it from a photo, so the realistic style may not be to the liking of others. Maybe I can edit it in the future to be more like the rest of the graphics.
